Draw in MTG
Move the top card of your library into your hand.
Why it matters
To draw a card, take the top card of your library and put it into your hand without revealing it. The active player normally draws once during their draw step, and spells and abilities can instruct players to draw more.
Visual example
Draw two cards
- 1Divination reaches the top of the stack and begins resolving.
- 2Move the top card of your library into your hand, then repeat once.
- 3Put Divination into its owner's graveyard after it finishes resolving.
Real card example
Divination
A simple spell that draws two cards
Common mistakes
- Putting a card into your hand is only a draw when the effect specifically says draw.
- A player who must draw from an empty library loses the next time state-based actions are checked.
