ZonesBeginner
Hand in MTG
The private zone containing the cards a player can normally play or cast.
Why it matters
You may look at your own hand at any time, but opponents normally cannot. At the end of your turn, you discard down to your maximum hand size during cleanup.
Visual example
Draw cards into your hand
- 1Divination resolves from the stack.
- 2Take the top two cards of your library.
- 3Put those cards into your hand, then put Divination in your graveyard.
Real card example
Divination
Draws two cards from the library into your hand
Common mistakes
- Cards in hand are not permanents.
- A card drawn is revealed only if an effect specifically says so.
